Privacy policy

The short version: we only collect what we need to answer you and run the service, and we never sell your information. The longer version is below, in plain English, because a service built on trust should be plain about this too.

C-Bus Help is a service of Alien IT Solutions (ABN 32 385 519 280). This page explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and what we do with it. We handle your information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988.

What we collect

• When you contact us. Your name, phone number, email, and whatever you choose to tell us in your message.
• When you visit the site. Standard analytics such as the pages you view, rough location and device type, through Google Analytics, plus basic server logs our host keeps for security.
• If you become a customer. The details we need to set up and support the system.

How we use it

• To reply to your enquiry and explain your options.
• To set up and support the work you have asked for.
• To keep the website working and secure.

We do not use your details for unrelated marketing, and we do not sell or rent them to anyone.

Who we share it with

The form posts to a handler on this site's own server, not to a third party form service. We share information only with the services we use to run C-Bus Help, and only as far as they need it to do their job:

• Every request to this site passes through Cloudflare, which provides security and performance services and can see standard connection details such as your IP address.
• Google Analytics, which gives us aggregate figures on how the site is used.
• Twilio carries the message from the form to the inbox and does not use it for anything else.
• The form uses Akismet for spam screening when configured. Screening can include your message, name, email, IP address and browser information.

Some of these suppliers store or process data outside Australia, including in the United States. Where we disclose information overseas, we take reasonable steps to make sure it is handled in a way consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles.

We may also disclose information where the law requires it, or where it is needed to help in an emergency.

Cookies and analytics

The site uses Google Analytics, which sets cookies to measure how the site is used. You can refuse cookies in your browser, or use the Google Analytics opt out, and the site will still work.

Keeping your information

We keep enquiry details only for as long as we need them to help you, and customer records for as long as we support the system, after which we remove them. We take reasonable steps to protect what we hold.

Your choices

You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Just contact us using the details below and we will sort it out. If you are ever unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first, and if we cannot resolve it you can raise it with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
